How obstetric acupuncture supports the journey
Antenatally, acupuncture is helpful for the everyday miseries that pregnancy can bring as well as more complex conditions — and is particularly welcome where women want to avoid antibiotics, steroids or strong pharmacological interventions.
In labour itself, points worked on the sacral region stimulate endorphin release and the sacral nerve plexus that supplies the uterine muscles, supporting smooth and efficient progression with less pain. Acupuncture can stabilise blood pressure, reduce anxiety, and in many cases help avoid or reduce the need for syntocinon and prostaglandins.
After birth, treatment focuses on lochia, perineal healing, breastfeeding establishment, hormonal balance and the nervous-system reset so many women need.
